WHAT IS GHIS?

The Global Health Innovation Summit (GHIS) is an annual event hosted by Innovators for Global Health at Northeastern University (IGH). At GHIS students from Northeastern and other local universities will work together to develop holistic solutions to tackle global public health issues.

Students will have the opportunity to learn from a diverse group of panelists, workshop leaders, and professional mentors throughout the event as they compete in teams to design the most innovative, impactful, responsible, and fiscally-sustainable global healthcare solutions.

​

GHIS 2023 will primarily be focused on disparities in distribution of healthcare supplies, with subtopics including but not limited to:

- Medical devices & equipment
- Women's health necessities
- Blood availability & transfusion safety
- Chronic illness treatment
- OTC medication & antibiotic misuse
- PPE
- Access to clean water

Panelist and Speaker Discussions

Participants will discuss issues in healthcare, with a focus on topics in this year’s theme. Speakers will be experts from a variety of fields. There will be guided questions and a Q&A at the end for the audience to ask questions.

Guided Workshops

Participants will develop skills in advocacy, community outreach/education, technology/innovation, and building business models by engaging in various workshops. These workshops should challenge critical thinking skills and prepare participants for making their pitches.

Mentorship and Team Building

Network and collaborate with leaders with varying expertises. Connect with peers of similar interests. Make lasting relationships to further career and professional goals. Improve teamwork and leadership skills.

GHIS Project

Competition

Groups of students will be made based on individual interests and backgrounds. Participants will take the knowledge from panels/speaker discussions, workshops, and mentors to pitch a creative solution to a problem relating to this year's theme. Each group will present their pitch to a panel of judges. The group with the best pitch/project will win prize money.
